I don't know the exact date but "Several characters and plot elements are also based on the 1940 version of The Thief of Bagdad, and many aspects of the traditional story were changed for the film — for instance, the setting is changed from "China " to a fictional Arabian city, Agrabah. " ........

There is no Time sest .. for the movie its left vauge .. But i had always thought of aladdin taking place somewhere in the time of The Persian Empire / / . that would put the date somewhere between 550-330 bc Of course the movie (disney) is based on a book like the other person stated .. The Village Ackrabah is fictional so there really is no way of knowing .. btw
