Disney animation vs japanese animation?

Question: Disney animation vs japanese animation?

(Posted by: Gruffnar P on 2009-04-10 00:11:41)

Now i know alot of people that say anime has good plots and characters (some times), but what people are missing when they see an animated movie is noticing the ANIMATION. thats a no brainer. and in many, MANY cases disney(im talking ONLY films not the cartoons you see on the disney channel)'s animation takes MUCH more time, than anime. the movement is MUCH smoother and the shading and lighting is smooth http:/ / www.youtube.com/ watch?v=- nRGC720Qak. anime seems to have blocky looking people with shark shadings. mouths usualy arnt in sync with the speech http:/ / www.youtube.com/ watch?v=JA- 3pPXWud4. however, anime has some REALLY nice backgrounds, something disney lacks of. but over all i think the animation quality of the two cant be generalized because there are some animes i did like, akira, spirited away and last exile. but i love ALL the disney animations. plus both have diferant styles of character disgine disney examples: emperor's new groove, mulan, treasure planet anime examples: akira, naruto, princess mononoke. so if you have ansewers that have nothing to do with the animation quality of the two (like telling me anime has better stories or characters), there is no reason to comment, because this question is about ANIMATION which is an amazing art. so which do you think is a better form of animation a person or character? for the record i do prefer anime to dreamworks CG movies (egh!)

JP anime styles depend on the original character creator....so it varies for me.

I so agree. I find anime boring to watch sometime because the characters don't even MOVE(I still watch alot though, but I prefer to read a manga)! I find it fun when I get to watch characters actually moving like old Disney animation and american cartoons. I do like the style of anime, but it needs to move, that's the whole point of ANIMATING it. That's why I really liked Avatar:The last airbender. The creators are americans who love the anime style, so they made a great show with anime styled characters, but they pull in the american animation and made it even better.

Actually, both Disney and creators of anime have really good artstyles. I admire both in their line of work because I can never do it myself. And, I'm not bias either. I grew up watching Disney films. Now, I'm watching anime, but I still enjoy Disney films no matter how old I am. 1. The movements in anime and Disney are smooth enough. The same goes with shading and lighting. (I'm an amature for this.) 2. Blocky looking people with sharp shadings? I think not. Anime has a variety of companies of people doing the shading. The characters are different as well. So, there's a lot of comparisons. Which ones would you like to compare? 3. Not only anime has really nice backgrounds, Disney has them too. Their backgrounds are nicely painted, which is why it takes longer. Like Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. 4. What do you mean by person and/ or character? They're both considered characters in the animation. Doesn't matter what country the supposed charater is made. 5. Actually, the CG makings of Dreamworks are really nice. I liked Shrek. 6. Pixar is my favorite animation company that I loved. The 3-D designs are very nice. Its colorful. The red is nicely shown in the Incredibles. The colors in the Bugs' Life and Monsters Inc is beautiful too. 7. Lastly, to each their own. I don't know what you were trying to prove, but was it a point that you want to make of?

Japanese Animation :) If the art in the anime is not good I won't watch it most of the time and that has only happened a couple of times in the 350+ animes I've watched. What it comes down to is a matter of opinion, everyone is different.

Well technically anime is an evolved form of disney...seriously the first anime astroboy was made by ozemu takahke or something who left disney to do his own cartoon astroboy, phoenix, and buddha...you can see disney in his artwork...then later it evolved to what we have now' but i personally like anime animation better because the joints aren't all flimbsy
